It took me 10 minutes to start up a 6.2L Detroit Diesel truck this morning. I neglected to plug in the block heater last night because I was to damn cold and just wanted to get into the house! Truthfully I'm actually surprised it started at all. Usually below -25C without a block heater means you're SOL.

Let's see what tonight brings. I will furnish photographic proof of my bottom-place finish if I remember my camera.

Due to it being Arctic season I've been hunkering in the recliner building a list of mind-numbing television on Netflix. We've actually become fans of British detective series. Currently watching Midsomer Murders and I enjoy seeing the background as much if not more than the story lines. Are the roads really that narrow in the countryside? And the architecture of some of the older home is amazing.

Boss Lady likes "Peaky Blinders", and pretty much all the BritKill shows.

You think that's bad, I always thought the Canadians were a peaceful folk until we watched two seasons of "Slasher" ! Friday the Thirteenth type with more gore.

The hex-wife studied serial killers. I'm certain she could have been one herself. Luckily she was a coward.

Hate to make all of you fine gentleman jealous, but here in Arizona were experiencing a lovely warm spell making the high 75 f, and the low 41 f. I just sit outside in my shorts, read a book and listen to some music, best time of the year here in Arizona. Wait till July and it'll be 115 f out, so I think that's fair. I do miss the snow and lovely summer weather of Colorado.

Last time I was in AZ the temp was in triple digits. Javelina were bursting into flames. Cacti were fainting from lack of water.

It was one lousy Christmas Eve.

According to the almost always faultless meteorological records, we peaked at -39C on Friday night. How do I collect my prize?

Are you sure that wasn't from the patented KodiakBeer Purple Assploder 7.62x51 cartridge?

Oh shit... we probably shouldn't be giving him ideas for the armor-piercing incendiary variant.

English country lanes are insane. Narrow, with the high, thick hedges. In fact, the whole country is insane. Driving there is mad. They insist on planting shrubbery in front of road signs.

We've been to Aridzona many times and it was always at the height of summer. Visited the Meteor Crater three times now and the last trip it was a rather mild 105. Took me ten minutes to make the climb behind the museum to the top of the outdoor observation area. Midwest lungs need humidity to process oxygen properly. An aside here: I've actually found myself standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona. If you're of a certain age you'll get that :)

Rkline, I've got Luther in the que and I'll check out the other.

I think I remember reading that air conditioning was first installed in Texas, (Houston?) and it was noted if it it weren't for Mr Carrier, Texas would still be a barren wasteland. Which, outside of the major metropolitan areas it pretty much is.

George P, it's just not fair. We actually warmed up to the low 20's. Never had a chance to compete. Sun is shining and it's heading for mid 20's today. If it wasn't for the wind it'd be short sleeve weather. As winner of the Lowness award I think it only proper you fire up one of the tracked vehicles and post a video. You Know which one!

English roads look notorious. Yesterday's episode of Midsomer Murders had numerous near misses what with cars and motorbikes careening around corners and everyone driving in the middle of the lane. I say lane because there appears to be a single path for traffic which I assume is a left over from the King Arthur days. Noticed there doesn't appear to be what we Americans call "curbs". Which I think would be a good idea to help direct all that rain.
Picked up a new colloquium too; Detective Barnaby said to his friends after yet another funeral, "Go ahead, I'll catch you up". My wife, being from the New England area of the East coast, occasionally tosses out peculiar speech such as "Toss me down the stairs my hat". ?? Or "Park the cars side by each". Not that she actually talks this way, she just does it to make me question my hearing. And give her some quiet time as I ponder my sanity.

But were you standing on THE corner in Winslow Arizona? They added a statue of Glenn recently from what I understand.

The mercury is rising here today. We're sitting at around 0C now, and we're supposed to be +2C to +5C until the weekend. So much for all the nice snow we've gotten. There's about 2ft on the ground.

It was 46 went I went out to feed my wild quail this morning. I almost regretted not having a long sleeved tee shirt. It'll top out at 74 today, which is good because I won't have to change my shirt.
