I could have put this into the Info Requests area, but this is a slightly different type of question and it has entirely to do with books, so... I have a lot of book, several thousand in fact, and sometimes I have trouble remembering which ones I own and have problems keeping them straight. I'm wondering what, if any, methods you guys use to keep track of your books. I'm thinking there has to be some sort of software available to organize & categorize your books, as well as keep some sort of notes on each one. The best case scenario for me is the existence of a powerful, free database software, but I also don't mind a pay software either, whatever it takes to keep things straight...
Thanks to both of you, U think I'm going to use BookDB, it seems just as good as the UK Bookworld one, and it's free. Also, just organizational purposes, I'm adding the Library of Congress search DB, so you can organize your books the bookshelf exactly as they do in a US library. A cool little tool, that comes in handy when you have thousands of books. Pinning this very usefull thread...
A thread worth bumping. I'm currently moving across the country (of USA) and still dealing with the aftermath of a flood that destroyed a heartbreaking 700 books and most of my wargames. It happened in back in 2013 or so and I only now had the will to go down and enumerate the casualties. I'll be rebuilding some of the collection in the new home and would love to hear what you Rogues are doing to catalog your bookshelves.
librarything.com, Boss Lady has fifteen hundred books listed there. I keep my books and the household videos there. It's free until you hit 250, then there's a one time fee of $25. I've save much more than that avoiding duplicates.
Jeff uses it and recommended it to me. I have some books there, but I admit I''m not very diligent about updating it. It does give you the ability to use tags to help organize them.
Yes, LibraryThing is the boss. Did not know it had a 250 entry cap. I have substantially more than that cataloged there. I also have won a good many books to read and evaluate. Got 5 in one year. If you write a critique of the books you win, you tend to win more
I figured technology had come a good distance since this thread was created 12 years ago. Librarything seems to be the ticket. Dies it allow for LoC categories (the US Library of Congress)? I'm on my phone and it's hard to check from this device.

@OpanaPointer Thanks, it looks like this has everything I need to rebuild my destroyed book collection properly. @Slipdigit Sorry, I wasn't too clear in my post. I wasn't asking if Librarything had a mobile app, I was asking if the site had the ability to categorise by Library of Congress, as it was hard for me to check this on the small phone I was using. I think I'll be using a desktop browser with LT almost exclusively. My future study will have bookcases and a workstation.
