German Soviet engineered tanks

If the Germans and soviets followed through with the Molotov Ribbentrop pact, what kind of tank would they produce with the combined Soviet and German engineers. What would each side bring to their technological terror

 

What specifically do you mean? I.e. what do you think in the pact calls for combined tank production?

 

They may have conceivably ended up with a more homogenised view of tank usage, but the exchanges at Kazan etc. were always cagey about technological matters.
Neither side was ever entirely truthful with the other as to what their 'best' or most promising ideas were.

So... Having stated that I believe it unlikely the uneasy truce would ever have yielded much, if we must speculate, I can't see much more exchange than a possibility some sort of 'T34 reaction' could happen earlier, and the Sovs might learn that their optics could be better.
The Germans would still sneer at crude Russian engines, while the Reds, I'm sure, would find the delicacy and stress associated with Maybachs amusing.

Neither side was doing much particularly revolutionary with armour design in that period at all. Still stumbling towards the MBT with a BFG, like everyone else.
Tukachevsky's deep battle ideas and other tactical/strategic trends might have yielded more.


Info on Kazan/Kama etc. is sketchy enough as it is.
Might it be more instructive to gather what actually happened there, and look at the whole nasty mess of the pact than head straight to fantasy?

 

Well, let's just say that they decided to exchange the full technological edges that each side expected. Of course they wouldn't give their design edges to an uneasy alliance, but just think how would a t34 with German improvements would be, or a panzer 2 with sloped armor and a crude engine or a 35mm gun.

My question just to clarify was what kind of improvements would the pact have on the tanks of the era if hitler decided to be best friends with stalin. Like how the British took the sherman and added a 17 pounder. Later in the war

 

The t-34 Was missing the German Balancend aimer's view lens, and also the commander cupola. Germans would need the frontal armor like t-34. And also room for the 50 mm gun at least for pz3 and long baŕrel 75 mm for Pz4.
