I bought this KA-BAR knife for $35 at the Aberdeen Military Show. I was told it was from WW2. What are your opinions? P.S. This is my first post as a member
Welcome Glenn to the Forums, it looks old and battered, but if I'm not mistaken those knives were used well into the 70's, so it could be from another era, but I might be totally wrong.
Really? I thought they upgraded it and essentially made a new one with a different handle and metal...........learned something new again!
I think you're referring to the OKC-3S bayonet which was first fielded in 2003 to replace the M7 bayonet and to serve the dual purpose of a combat utility knife. (well past the 70's) This went to everyone whose TOE weapon was a rifle or carbine, and just like every other weapon it takes time to build up stocks and supplant its predecessor. That said the KaBar (knife, fighting utility or USMC Mk 2 fighting knife) was still issued to personnel whose TOE weapon was not a rifle or carbine. I know that this still occurred as late as 2010 when my younger son was deployed to Afghanistan with the Marines, hence my 2010's comment.
