So is the F-35 unfortunately...STILL WAITING! The Russians cancelling their aircraft is a boost to the West...the Chinese version is yet to be truly tested. (May get some action with the US sending aircraft including stealth into their airspace...provocative.) This is looking to be a 6th Gen fighter (or 5.5) with full link up with other platforms (drones) and unmanned capability. I cant see why Brexit would or should have a bearing on the German/Italian agreement. Classic British design in the aft sections...with what seems at a glance a 22 or 35 forward section. The real thing probably wont resemble too much of either. They already have a Typhoon...I suppose hence the suggestion of Tempest. Will this be a Hawker design? If not then why bother with old names...especially as these two were pretty much the same aircraft and both had heaps of teething problems. An Australian F-35...Will it ever be fully operational? Remember Hawker designed and built the Jump Jet, something the Americans couldn't compete with so very unusually bought them. Tried and tested in combat. The English are one of the few countries I'd give a fighting chance of coming up with something special. I would like to see them in concert with at least one other country though...cost has been too much of a hinderance to British Aerospace.
Not likely...The Tempest is not expected to be operational until 2035. Britain will need something to fill in the almost 20 year gap.
