Trump’s top men talk up US-Australia alliance Good news...these meetings and statements are usually about cutting through the BS, usually from news outlets...Very cool of the US "the US will not push Australia to conduct freedom of navigation exercises in the South China Sea." - This is a big concession from the US and shows maturity and understanding - this didn't come from Trump in other words. I can say though that Australia will CONTINUE freedom of navigation exercises with both the US and Britain...Just nice not to be expected to. When we do sail through there, China will know its because we agree with the International family...and not being the US's lap dog. (Which we've never been - despite being regularly accused of it from non western countries for decades.) And we would be the US's attack dog, not a lap dog anyway.
Whenever somebody not named Trump and Pence is speaking on behalf of the U.S, it's reassuring, pleasant even. I don't want our nations, and Millions of young men's lives screwed over in a third world war because Trump didn't get his way or got offended......
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> This is an Australian Left wing political band Midnight Oil...think rage against the machine only a decade earlier. One of their songs talks about Australia being beholden to the US...trust me this guy is half arsed...he also said Australia was never attacked in WW2, a slap in the face to everyone from Darwin. One of his songs: US Forces...is anti war anti US/Australia BUT I really like the start of this song..."US Forces give the nod" (To Australia - and we go to war). Turn it right up and press play...sounds so cool!
I am opposed to the further left and further right in all countries, including my own, but I think most Americans feel favorably towards Australia. I know I certainly do. I ran into a bunch of Victorians who were touring New York last week and told them I thought Oz was great. They were very friendly and one of them (a bloke named Steve) gave me a first bump!
We do studies here in Australia as to why Americans like us...(for tourism purposes) - Some interesting findings. Americans still don't get our swearing though...we swear all the time...male and female...we especially swear when saying something favourable. And we call our closest mates the worst names we can think of...a person can easily be called a c..t without the slightest intention of insult. "Who gave you that? I dunno some c..t" - The few Americans that came to my school...got into a number of fights thinking people were having a go at them...good on them for sticking up for themselves, but they go off half cocked...what was said was probably a complement.
I think another reason why Americans like Australia is because they, as in Australia, have never wronged us, or have really done anything on the world stage that would permit negative views, at least that I know of. I have tremendous respect for the nation and it's people, they stand by us, and we stand by them, Australia is one of the few nations in the world I would be willing to fight for.
I think also because since television we watch hours and hours of American behaviour every night (The split is about 50%American - 25% British and 25%Australian) - We understand your humour, your history, your idiosyncrisies(SP?), what you like to do in your down time etc etc...You'd be surprised how many Americanisms exist here now (Grrrr...!) And we both don't like the English...shhh.
I think the biggest reason Americans like Australia is that it doesn't have Trump as COTUS(Clown of the United States). Sorry, but with his actions recently, I cannot in good faith, call him President. He's too much of a clown.
Most clowns are at least trying to be funny. Being a clown involves a lot of work and self sacrifice that's not appreciated by many. IMO that's an unwarranted assault on clowns.
