HI. Yes I did appear on the Yesterday channel. seemed to be OK.

This is a Sister company of WW2 talk, where I was falsely accused of racism. I asked for an apology in the most pleasant way possible..... it was not forthcoming, so I no longer contribute. Though I do check in now and again. so that anyone that sends me a message will not be ignored.,

Just reading Moorehead's the Desert War and every time I come to Sappers digging up Italian mines, I think of you and have a new respect for these professionals.

You have an excellent job here and hope that you will return at some time.

Hi, did you know my father, same name james ronald royle a sapper in 246 Company, landed on D day. Was wounded within two weeks, temp. blinded and sent back to U.K. That was the end of his war. He was mentioned in dispatches but took his knowledge to the grave. His four children never found out what happened. Thanks for any information you could supply. Jim Jnr.

 

Dear Jim Junior. I no longer contribute to this site. But I did happen to see your posting, and I feel I have a duty to answer your request....I have looked at ther period you mentioned within two weeks of D day, and the conclusion I came to are two.. One laying 4000 mines at night out in front of the leading infantry at Periers sur le dan....

The other, and it seems to the most likely, was the battle for the Chateau de la londe...A bloody and ferocious hand to hand fight named by the press at the time as "The bloodiest Square mile in Normandy" If I was asked to suggest a time, about the 22June that would be it.....

I have always felt a deep connection to your writing and felt that you were giving me the gift of things my father might have told me about his experiences if he'd lived long enough to realize how much I wanted to hear about them.

I do hope you continue to check in and stay in touch.

Thanks to my former Naval NCO for sending me this great tribute. And thanks to BMC David Campbell for serving in the Brown Water Navy, Mekong and at the USS Arizona Memorial among other duty stations.
