I found these today. The 10 pfenning piece is 1944. Any help on what everything is would be appreciated.
Several of them are service enlistment day Souvenirs (Dienst) there are also some tinnies, membership insignias, cap parts , recalls and others.
More details; -the recall is for a WWI Veteran . - The harp is a music association pin The Arbeitsdienst reward is related to the compulsory Work service prior to the enlistement in the army.
good variety of pics and militaria....I can never look at too much of each ...thanks for posting and for members' knowledge.....did I miss some background information?? where did they all originally come from?
My father was in the 980th FA Bn in WWII. He died in 1967, so I never got to know him. I've been cleaning out my mother's house getting it ready to sell. I found these in a tin box in the nightstand next to the bed that hasn't been touched since he died. In the Unit narrative, they captured quite a few enemy soldiers, a lot for a 155MM artillery Bn. Everyone in the unit must have got their share.
My Dad was also in the 980th. I have been looking for information on the outfit for years. Recently my uncle found some of Dad's stuff in an old trunk that Grandma had in storage forever. I would be glad to share anything I have with anyone interested. Most of what I have is from Battery B. I'll start with this roster.
Which is your father? There are a lot of names that could be searched in a place like Fold3. You might glean some information.
My Dad was Eurphus Green from Oklahoma. His Sgt.called him Moose. He was a wireman in Battery B. He was also a truck driver and forward observer and worked on the equipment. He told me a story about how he and Bull Ursetta swept out a railroad tunnel (with Thompson machine guns) and when they came out the other end he discovered that what he thought was sweat running down the side of his face was actually blood. he had taked a bullet fragment through his ear.
