    Hi,
This is to bad... I was at Reipertswiller this afternoon...
My objective was Dietrichskopf. But hunting was underway (from Pulverbruecke) and dissuaded me. I went then to Althorn, on other US soldiers traces.

Which side you were this afternoon? Do you come often in the area?

If anyone is interested in the German side of this battle, two memoirs of vets of 6th SS Girbigs Div. are out. They are: "Seven Days in January" by Wolf T. Zoepf and "Black Edelweiss: A memoir of combat and conciliation" by Johann Voss. I recommend both and the latter is available on Kindle.

    Hi,

"Seven Days in January" by Wolf T. Zoepf : Mainly devoted to Wingen s / Moder.
"Black Edelweiss: A memoir of combat and conciliation" by Johann Voss : Devoted to the sector Reipertswiller (I have this book which is very well)

Otherwise, more difficult to obtain today:
    "Nordwind" by Francis Rittgen
"Winter Storm : War in northern Alsace, November 1944 - March 1945" by Lise M. Pommois

My daddy was captured January 21, 1945 at the battle of Reipertswiller and was sent to Stalag 12A. unable to find paper work during capture at camp or after when he was liberated. He was in 157th Regiment company E.

I learnt about this battle from Alex Kershaw's book, The Liberator. It's about Lt. Col. Sparks who landed in Sicily as a lt and rose to battalion command. He commanded the 3rd battalion that was captured. The entire regiment was to capture the ridge and only the 3rd succeeded in its objective. Sparks realized that they were vulnerable and asked for permission to withdraw to a more defensible position. Div. Com. Fredericks told him to hold. They were overran and captured and Sparks was fuming made at Fredericks.
