I am currently painting a couple of these figure: Soviet Naval Infantry. What i need is some detail on soviet medals.
Here are some: Order of Hero of the Soviet Union. Order of Lenin. Order of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. Soviet Guards badge. Order of the Red Star. Aviators badge. Medal for bravery. Medal for the Liberation of Berlin.
More: Medal for the Liberation of Budapest. Medal for the Defense of Moscow. Medal for the Defense of the Caucasus. Paratroopers badge. Badge for the veterans of the Battle of Karelia, 1939-1940. Badge for the Soviet Marines. NKVD badge. Badge for the Liberation of Khárkov 1943.
Well, just do not use too many Orders of Hero of the Soviet Union unless you are going to paint a little marshal Zhúkov...
Here is a site that may be very helpful. One little thing though. The only one wearing a medals in that picture would be the officer, because the rest are wearing the telagroika padded jacket. I have an origional Russian naval infantry telagroika from WW2. This one is interesting because it has four minor wound badges (little red strips of cloth sewn onto the right side of the jacket). It also has little peices of the ribbon from the medal sewn on to the left side to signify the medals he had. They are, combat service (everyone who had experienced combat had one of these), order of valour, and order of the red star. It is impossible to get a pin to go through one of these coats, then have it hook back onto the back of the pin. Anyways, here is a good website for soviet medals and awards. Soviet Awards and Medals Good luck, ~Katyusha~
Actually on the "Badge for the veterans of the Battle of Karelia, 1939-1940", I saw a Russian document on the famous "Mainila shots" during which it was claimed that all the original badges were destoyed so all that can be found are repros (?!). The Mainila shots were artillery fire on 26th November that was supposed to be shot from the Finnish side and killed some 13 Red Army soldiers according to Red Army propaganda and finally led to Winter war (started 30th November 1939 ). Later on Russia has admitted that this shooting was from their side.
