... what the hell is my avatar?

I only use it provisional until Otto has updated the avatars and added my private one, but I don't even know who/what this guy is. Can anyone help me?

I believe it is none other than Michael Douglas from "Apocalypse Now", it is a (famous?) press photo.

It's not Michael Douglas - it's Martin Sheen as Willard in 'Apocalypse Now', emerging from the Do Long River just before killing Marlon Brando ( 'Kurtz' ) with a machete in the penultimate scene of the movie.

'A small bubble rises to the surface, then another.Suddenly but quietly, mud and water pour off, revealing Willard, emerging slowly, head first, as if he were growing out of the water'.

First you need 100+ posts, then click 'My Profile' (centre top most pages), then 'View/Update Profile' at top left of page.

Juts wondering as the name came up...

Michael Douglas is certainly lucky...I´d like to have a woman like Catherine Zeta-Jones obsessed with wanting to marry me and have kids when I am 55 years old...
( of course she´d be in her early 30´s ...)
     ;)

All you need for this is some undeniable charisma, some good connections in Hollywood and tons of bucks. [IMG] :D

It's a classic movie. Probably not the best movie about Vietnam - certainly not in a factual sense - but it has a weird ambience of its' own, a great soundtrack, and some remarkable set-pieces including the famous helicopter attack.

Plus one of the most memorable war-movie lines ever ; -

'I love the smell of Napalm in the morning....'

I didn't particularly like the film, but I think that was only due to the fact that it wasn't gory enough, not enough action etc etc etc... [IMG]

Well, i'll try it and see what I think about it. But by the sounds of it, I probably won't like it that much.

If you're going to see Apocalypse Now , do yourself a favour - see it on the big screen. On video, it loses something like 98% of its' impact.

The only part to that movie I liked was when the Airmobile Cav came screaming in and fired rockets at that Vietcong village and was playing I think it's called: Ride of the Valkerie?

As far as the rest of the movie IMHO, I thought it war veri VERI schlecht.

I think Apocalypse Now Redux was better than the original, but neither of them are among my favorites

Lets not forget that Apocalypse Now was the first movie to broach the taboo subject of Vietnam. Look at all the movies that followed in the wake of this classic movie.

Although some people may argue about the quality of the movie it was a pioneer and classic movie in and of itself.

Besides the storyline was unique and original. Many of the other movies that followed kind of had the same type of storyline.

Hey, Buck - aren't you forgetting The Green Berets ? ;)

( Have to admit it - for all its' many faults, weirdnesses, overlength...whatever, Apocalypse made a huge impact on me when I saw it first time around in '79 ).

Saw Apocalypse Now in all it's glory at the pics in '79.
Never been the same watching it on telly since.
