I talked with Darrell (belasar) this morning for a good while. Darrell has served for several years as a moderator and admin and is well thought of by many long-time members of WW2F and our sister forum, WW2Talk. He is a great guy-level headed and knowledgeable about the time period and offered great comments on subjects being discussed here. Darrell has been mostly MIA many of the past few months and those of us who knew him fairly well understood that he has been dealing with some significant health issues for several years. Thankfully, my greatest concerns were not realized when he answered the phone and we were able to have a good conversation. Darrell explained to me what is going on with him and authorized me to tell all of you of his great thanks for the friendships over the years and the opportunity for great conversations during that time. Unfortunately, his health is such that he cannot effectively participate in computer-based forums. He plans to visit from time to time, but will probably not be able to respond, as much as he would want to. Darrell, I salute you and wish for you fair winds and following seas.
I wish him well, hope his health issues resolve. He is a great guy and hope he does come by and say hello from time to time.
Sorry to hear his health prevents him from a more active presence. I know first-hand what he is going through. This forum was my lifeline. I hope it is for him, too. Best wishes Darrell.
Very sorry to hear this, Jeff. A top bloke & cheerful presence. Wish him well when next you speak. ~A
Belasar is one of the reasons I've enjoyed joining the ranks of ww2f rogues. Always helpful and never condescending, top notch historian to boot.
I wish him well too, always enjoyed chatting with him. If anyone is in touch with him, please pass along my good wishes.
Jeff and I discussed this for a while before his posting of the thread. The news was sad to hear. Belasar/Darrell is the very best kind of member, which accurately reflects his underlying persona as well. Cheers Darrell.
I am very sad to hear this. I've only ever corresponded with him through private messages but he is a very knowledge, extremely friendly, and genuinely good guy. Best wishes from Canada!
Hate to hear business such as this. Hopefully all goes well for Brother Belasar and his struggle. Come on back when you can Brother, we'll all be here pulling for and waiting for you.
Who is going to keep order and peace now on a war forum ??? Seriously, the best sort of member, I had forgotten he was an administrator . Belasar. I look forward to your stopping by and availing us of your always cogent and thoughtful knowledge.. Welcome to our lower ranks !!! Warmly, Gaines
Darrell, got you on my prayer list. You have always been a great friend and source of incredible knowledge for me over the years.
Nice to see you Darren even if it's in a concerning thread. Hope you can find the time to post again.
I am very sorry indeed to hear of 'Belasars' health problems - he's always seemed an absolutely central part of this Forum to me. My very best wishes to him - and also thanks to Jeff for updating us.
Just spoke to Otto. Thank you all very much. I have had a change in my medications which have affected my detail vision. A little harder to post these days, so no long winded post for now (lucky you!). Be well and I will lurk as I can. Belasar
