Another strategy page article. One of the more pessimistic ones I've seen with regards to the capability of the Russian Navy.

He hasn't posted in a while but it's worth reflecting on the comments from one of our members early in this thread:

Another report that makes things sound even worse. In brief Russia has gone to one year terms for conscripts. That means a lot of poorly trained sailors and a lot of turn over. See:
    Attrition: Russia Losses Its Edge
On another board it was mentioned that they are scrapping a number of major vessels.

Russians never seem to have much luck with ships and the sea.

I do remember that John Paul Jones served in their navy for a while. Haven't read much about what was happening there then though. A fair number of their ships spent a good part of the ACW in New York harbor as well. At least that showed that they were capable of operating across the breadth of the Atlantic at the time. Then there's always the famous battle on the lake but the Russian force there was mostly infantry.

yup. read about this... not long ago- something about the "new weapons".
was there some kind of accident recently, where a whole town had to be evacuated?
were they using nuclear powered missiles...don't know, just asking.
    pardon me.

Their most famous ships are the Potemkin which had a mutiny and the Aurora which kicked off a revolution by firing on her own government. No Victory or Old Ironsides ;)
