Reading the After Action Reports of the 67th Armored Regiment. Says the Regiment came ashore at Omaha Beach on 11 June, 44 and moved 1 1/2 miles west of Forrigny, France, then moved to the vicinity South west of Lamine, France until July 1st. Was able to locate Forrigny, but am having no luck locating Lamine. Tried several Google searches and there don't seem to be a town/village with that name. The report has (T644749) which I believe is a location on a map overlay. What would I need to be able to locate the reference numbers, like the (T644749) ? Thanks for any help.
Notes on the "Modified British System" used on the European Theatre of Operations during the WWII 49.228789,-0.898629 - Map of Cities in 49.228789,-0.898629 - MapQuest is vT644749. Lamine simply means "the mine" so could refer to a geographical feature nearby, a quarry or something similar. BTW, it is Formigny, not Forrigny.
La mine is currently an an district of the town of Molay-Littry. La mine was an hamlet between Le Molay and Littry. The two cities were grouped in 1969. The center of this new city is at the emplacement of "La Mine" hamlet.
That is good information to know. We often forget that a lot can change in 75 years (or in this case, 25 years!). I've run into similar problems in trying to locate a town or village referenced in AARs or Morning Reports using modern online maps.
