Since we do not see the actual launch and the target is a T-34, I have doubts it was a TOW. More likely a RPG.
Again we see neither the launch or launcher, so its difficult to positively identify what weapon was used. "Damage" appears to be minimal with no secondary's cooking off or blown hatches/turrets. A second explosion looks suspiciously like a repeat of the first and appears to be a enhanced image which then reverts to a smaller image. A TOW was designed to take out much heavier Soviet tanks like the T-62/64/72/80. There are of course many kinds of wire guided munitions and considering this takes place in Yemen my guess would be a Russian made SAGGER or similar. To be honest this looks like a propaganda stunt firing at a 'inert' target lacking crew, ammunition or fuel. It's exposed, unsupported, unmoving and unresponsive.
Well...The erratic flight path and the red flare are indicative of a guided missile. The explosion is looped and slightly enlarged - not only is the red flare of the missile seen briefly at the start of the loop, the smoke pattern and large debris flight paths are the same. As has been already pointed out the lack of activity by the tank and the lack of troops near the tank are suggestive that this was taken at a target range or that the tank had already been abandoned or otherwise killed. Given that both sides possess T-34/85s, of which few are operational, I see this as nothing more than target practice and propaganda video. The rebel Syrian videos I have seen showed active mobile targets often with troops nearby, and are less questionable.
It's not faked, the Houthis executed at least several such (and successful) attacks, they are well-armed, including in Badir-F precision-guided tactical ballistic missiles and Qasef-2K suicide drones. Some of their attacks can be seen here: From the SouthFront site: Houthi fighters targeted and destroyed two pick-up trucks carrying several Saudi-backed Yemeni fighters in the central Yemeni province of Dali’. A day later, the Yemeni group destroyed a T-34 battle tank in Dali’ and two pick-up trucks in the provinces of Hajjah and al-Bayda’. The last few months witnessed intense use of ATGMs by the Houthis throughout Yemen and in southern Saudi Arabia. Due to this, the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies suffered from heavy losses and were forced to withdraw from many positions on several fronts. The other attacks: More: Yemeni rebels enhance ballistic missile campaign Yemen-based rebels have launched numerous ballistic missile attacks against Saudi Arabia since the outbreak of conflict in 2015. ... Saudi Arabia has confirmed that more than 34 ballistic missiles have been launched from Yemen into its territory since the conflict began. Although Saudi Arabia's Patriot air-defence systems have ensured that these attacks have so far had very little impact, they still enable the rebels to claim that they are retaliating in kind for airstrikes and signal their continued defiance.
I saw the wire. Seen a few TOWs popped off in training exercise. (Disclaimer: That's very old memories.)
I never said it was faked...I am saying it is misrepresented. As has been said before - The tank is immobile, with no personnel around, and none of the usual secondary explosions. Thus, the tank has already been knocked out or it is on a firing range
Naw, they were just over-awed by the tremendous fire power aimed at them and shit themselves to death while still in the tank.
Nobody is visible because it's summer and everyone is hiding from the scorching sun, it's impossible to stay for long in the sun there, and in a tank without air-conditioning even more. It's not a battle, a tank guarding something, maybe deep behind the frontline, ran out of luck.
Not an 'RPG'. (At least in the sense of what we think when someone says 'RPG'. Pedant/ Ruchnoi Protivotankovye Granatamyot can be translated as many things we don't necessarily discuss it as. It could technically encompass many weapons if you wanted to be needlessly pedantic /pedant ) But, no indication of what happened at the tank end. I've a study of range wrecks somewhere that shows tiny puncture holes from modern weapons alongside interior damage that would liquidise occupants. And. Errr. That's it. It's a video of a guided weapon hitting an old tank some distance away. Is there a point being made here? I'm taking the point that it's interesting to see an old warhorse still in play, though cannot be arsed to look more closely and ascertain if it's an actual WW2 period warhorse. (Czechs the last to bang them out? Late 50s? Can't recall)
Really? It's hot in the desert during summer? Who knew! It is so hot that all of the Saudi guards are no where to be seen, but our Houthi missile team is out there baking in the scorching sun? That is a very specific kind of "hot." Again, except for the Houthi missile team...The gotta sneak within range of the target, set up the launcher, acquire the target, hold aim on the target during the missile's flight time, tear down the launcher, sneakily exfil away from the target... But...it's impossible to stay long in the sun there... Thankfully, the Houthis have a secret device that allows them to perform said tasks in the scorching sun... It's not a tank guarding anything...There are no guards. Maybe, they are "loafers"...You know, those guys that bake bread. And, the tank...Well, that is their oven. But, hey it's too hot for anybody but Houthi missile teams to be spending hours and hours out in the sun-scorched desert. Ran outta fuel...No secondaries remember. Ran outta ammunition too.
I don't quite understand why you demand visible from a distance guards, waiting to be killed by a sniper or the sun. It's not another Hollywood movie, the war is real there. Actually, a man is visible at the beginning of the video, moving around, looking in the direction of the video operator.
