My dad brought back some items from his service in Germany. Does anyone know if this is a coat of arms flag or have any info on it? Update, Thanks LWD. It appears to be a Rampant lion. It may be from Austria. I know that my dad was in Salzburg, Aus.
The "tiger" is similar to the one on the 10th Panzer Division coat of arms. The images I've seen don't have the castle "in chief". The one above could be a faded yellow. I was looking mostly at German heraldry. Based on the above I looked a bit wider and found this: Coat of arms of Flanders | Wikiwand and this: flanders heraldry lion rampant - Google Search and Flag of Flanders - Wikipedia Still nothing with the chief that's on your banner. Possibly for a sub region or a cadet branch of the count of Flanders.
That's really close. Thanks for sharing that. I spent about an hour today looking at photos. I couldn't find any exact Rampant lions or any that have the castle along with it. Someone that is a Heraldry expert will probably be able to tell us. At least we got it in the ball park now. Thanks for your research & helpful links. I do appreciate it. I have only been on the site a short time and have learned quite a bit from the members. I'm not looking to sell anything, just learning so when I pass this stuff down I'll know more about what to share with my relatives. Tip
One thought was that it is or was the coat of arms for a city another a sub unit. ON the other hand it could be a flag for a sub unit of: 27th SS Volunteer Division Langemarck - Wikipedia Late in the war Flanders was theoretically incorporate into "Greater Germany" so it could have something to do with that as well. We do have some members from that area hopefully one if them will take a look at this thread in the not too distant future.
