Forces mitigated against me making the trip this year. :-(

My aunt texted me from Endymion, telling me the last half of the parade was cancelled after some drunk tried to cross the parade path and got flattened by a tandem.

Yeah that’s two crushed under a float in about 3 days. It’s always pedestrian error in these cases. And as usual, alcohol and or idiocy provides inevitable “Darwin Effect.” The actual footage of the incident was caught on film but the authorities refused to post it. Some angles released shows the reaction of the crowd during the actual crushing. Ewwwwwe. It’s with audio as well and doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

Yeah she’s a cutie pie. We first dated back in the late 80s and again in the early 90s before moving on. We stayed in touch over the years, lucky for me!

My aunt said it looked the deceased tried to cross over between the two carriages of the float.

My feelings are that is the price you pay for being stoopid.

I just texted my son. He was on float number 20 and the incident happened with float number 13. So they didn’t get half way. They pulled the float off the route and bussed them back to the convention center. He will be able to reclaim some of the money that he paid for the beads that he couldn’t get off of the float, I think. It’s a shame for the floats, bystanders and merchants. And with the laws regarding alcohol down there (I have been there) it may be hard to curb these actions. But in the future you would think that some kind of laws would go into the parade route being made more secure from these types of idiots. He’s been doing this for years and this is the first time this has happened to them.

Whoever coined the term "idiot-proof" - underestimated the idiots!

There's nothing that can be done to curb idiocy when idiots get liquor'd up.

We used to be together in the 82nd Airborne Division a long time ago. Look at us now!

The mighty 82nd...talk about a famous outfit...
Is there any difference between the 82nd and 101st?

Not sure why this was a stupid question..?
    According to someone:

    The differences between the two:

The 82nd is at Fort Bragg, NC. The 101st is at Fort Campbell, KY.

The 82nd specializes in parachute operations. The 101st specializes in helicopter insertion, which is called Air Assault.

The 82nd is 100-percent Airborne qualified. You can’t receive orders to the division unless you have graduated from jump school. If you lose your airborne status (normally because of medical issues) they transfer you out of the division. OTOH, the 101st is not 100-percent Air Assault qualified. They want you to go to Air Assault school, but it’s optional.

The 82nd has a lot of restrictions on the equipment they can use, because everything they have must be airdroppable. The 101st doesn’t have this problem. One example is artillery: the 101st has its own general-support artillery (read: really big guns); the 82nd gets their GS fires from an artillery unit at Corps level.

We are all unarmed and dangerous!

I had a pocket knife tucked into my boot, and Dan (3rd from left) never goes anywhere without his Swiss Army Knife multi-tool. Not sure about Greg and Bob, didn't have time to pat them down prior to entering the gala.

Here's another pic from the ball. The fire head one is my couzan, Kyle who rode the float with me as my valet. Not sure how this happened, but it's pretty cool anyway.

The girl is another couzan. I have lots of couzans. They like Mardi Gras a lot too.

They are in the South, and mostly Southerners I will assume. I would bank on them all being armed, possibly with a small hog leg in addition to the common blade weapon.

It's there, look at his left lapel, in between the golden curls of the girlie next to him. You can barely see it.
