I rotate them from the closet for display as I only have enough space for a couple of those half-mannequins..wife says I need a small museum.

Always good to see history finding an appreciative home.

Thanks, of course, it was the faded red that was throwing me off, it looked tan. However, there were not separate medaals, just a "Germany" and "Japan" clasp...I know because my Dad was eligible for both (reminds me, I should order the clasps for his medal display). So Germany (9 May 45-9 May 55 - my Dad served twice in that date range), West Berlin (9 May 45-2 Oct 90), Austria (( May 45-27 July 55), Italy (( May 45-15 Sep 47), Japan (3 Sep 45-27 April 52 - my Dad served once in that date range), and Korea (3 Sep 45-29 Jun 49) were regions served and dates of eligibility, not different medals.

I didn't mean to sound there were different occupation medals..just the same medal issued for different zones for the periods you mentioned, with the proper attached clasp...was stationed at Wiesbaden AB back in the 70's..even back then you could still see some bomb craters while driving around.

We were in Hanau 1956-1959, but I don't remember it. Darmstadt though 1967-1969 I remember well. The year we returned to the states they were finally finishing rebuilding the Opera...so 25 years after the city center was bombed out. And of course outside of town was the Schuttberg...IIRC pretty close to one of the leichte Flaktuerm.

The other interesting thing at Darmstadt was the Rod and Gun Club, built on the ruins of a Luftwaffe field. One of the butts was originally used to synchronize the guns on fighters...found an inert 3.7cm there among a lot of other debris. It was also interesting because that is where the Richtofen Geschwader under Hermann Goering was disarmed at the end of the Great War.
