Old guys would do better in battle than young kids..why???..read on.

Researchers say 18-year old's think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on killing the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. If we can't kill the enemy, we'll complain them into submission. "My back hurts!" "I'm hungry!" "Where's the remote control?" "Who borrowed my tools?" "I need my meds!".

An 18-year-old hasn't had a legal beer yet and you shouldn't go to war until you're at least old enough to legally drink. An average old guy, on the other hand, has consumed 126,000 gallons of beer by the time he's 35 and a jaunt through the battlefield with a backpack and a M-60 would do wonders for the old beer belly.

An 18-year-old doesn't like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys get up early every morning to pee or let the dog out.

Old guys usually know more about tanks and planes than they could learn in those tech schools.

If old guys are captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd probably forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would actually be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we actually like soft food. We've also developed a deep appreciation for guns and rifles. We like them almost better than naps and tv.

I can hear the Drill Sergeant now, "Get down and give me...er...one."

And the running part is kind of a waste of energy. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet. <---my favorite

Old guys would use the bonus money on cool things, like restoring a '55 Ford pickup...vs those kids buying more tattoos and energy drinks.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to actually carry on a conversation, and to wear pants without the top of his butt crack showing and his boxer shorts sticking out. He still hasn't figured out that a pierced tongue catches food particles, a 400-watt speaker in the back seat of a Honda Accord can rupture an eardrum, or know how to win a argument with a woman.

So let us old guys track down those dirty rotten terrorist. The last thing the enemy would want to see right now is a couple of million old farts with attitudes and machine guns.

I say we take off and nuke them from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

..our old gunnys kept up with the youngsters---but that doesn't mean if all of those who stayed in and made gunny, could hack it and/or would've been good.....
..I agree with Opana on the generalization deal....
..the older Marines/etc of course will have more experience---but as far as being better, that would depend...we had good Lts and ''bad'' Lts...we had good platoon Sgts and ''bad'' ones ....as I was just saying in the Venezuela thread, organizations their share of '''idiots''' ......

..I turned 21 in Boot Camp..I was one of the older ones --and better.....I had ''natural''/''genetic''' discipline--so I had that going for me ..I made Cpl in about 2 years--PFC out of BCamp and Lcpl out of SOI --promoted real fast...would've made Sgt faster, but I got into trouble at the EClub

I would not be able to stay up for ~72 hours at this age. I've had eleven operations on my eyes. My heart is not eligible to be a donor when I die. Etc. Old men send young men into combat, t'was ever thus.

So what is old? My FIL was 28 when drafted. Guys in his heavy machine gun team called him "Pops". Some of the deadliest snipers were elderly Russians so I've read..

Sounds like No 2 Home Service Force Company HAC circa 1993. One platoon commander had been mobilised for Suez (1956), while one of the corporals had served in Iraq in 1948. Fortunately disbanded before 9/11 so we avoided stagging on at VCPs around the City of London.

    Ever seen Dads Army?

Im pretty sure this is tongue in cheek stuff...I could counter every argument...
The greatest reason why soldiers are young is because they feel invincible, so will do things that can get them killed...older folk are not "young, dumb and full of cum" - and are aware of their mortality and will be far less inclined to do risky things...like get out of your bunk.
