Can anyone identify the name of this troopship please. Sorry, I don't know which port it is leaving nor which year. If the above image doesn't show: FB_IMG_1589702575068.jpg Thanks
Were it Japanese, it would be classified as a Tare Baker, 9000 - 12000 GT, but, alas. This might be a good place to start . . . https://history.army.mil/documents/WWII/wwii_Troopships.pdf This place has a goodly number of troopship sailings listed, regretfully, since you've not that critical piece, by date, not by departure or destination. Australian ports appear with some regularity for departures and destinations. So, a big cross reference job of noting the transport name, eliminating duplicates, and then trying to find photos for comparison You'd only have to sift through about 1550 entries . . . that's what spread sheets are for. No, she is not the Andes II. Look at the massively tall bridge structure that is almost as tall as the stack - the Andes II has no structure above the boat deck. I thought she was a Cunarder because of the bridge design, but nothing quite fits. I"m thinking possibly an Empire ship, but so many to look through.
Also, the "lifeboats" look like landing craft - can't access photo at work site blocked. So she might be an attack transport rather than a trooper.
I'm thinking HMAS Kanimbla (I). After her June, 1943 conversion from an armed merchant cruiser to an LSI(Landing Ship Infantry). Will take a closer look when I get home and can access your original image.
