Hello, I was researching my Grandfathers service in WWII and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. From what I've been able to find his Enlistment Date was 20 Nov 1945. Now the document I have states:

    Source
Enlisted Man, Regular Army, after 3 months of Discharge

Now from my understanding that means he served in the Army was discharge then reenlisted after a 3 month or longer period of time.

The thing is I can't find anything about his first time enlisting so I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction as to how I could find his earlier enlistment.

    Two things come to mind:
    1) What was his name? That will make it easier to search.
    2) What documents do you have? If you can post them here, we have many about who can point you in the right direction.

    BTW, welcome to the forum.

    Thanks for the Welcome.

His name is James P. Donaldson.
As for the Document it's one I've found through ancestry.com: World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946

Yes that's the one I've found but, the "Source of Army Personnel" makes it sound that he was already in the Army and reenlisted in less I'm mistaken as to what "enlisted man regular army after 3 months of discharge" means.

I believe that your are correct. I looked up John F Hummer who I know was an Army Ranger in 1943 and served in Korea and Viet Nam. The NARA record for him shows an enlistment date of 1946. Hummer was discharged in 45 then reenlisted.

From family stories my Grandfather lied about his age and joined in 1944 and was wounded right near the end of the war in Europe. Maybe that could account to him being discharged and then reenlisting?
