    Hate to hijack a thread (aarg me matey) but there will have to be a realignment for TV content in the near future, there are simply too many pay wall subscription services. CBS All Access is already on deaths door and I can't see all of these hanging on.

    Yeah, but when winter comes...

    (I did see "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" in a drive-in, perhaps the only one in a hundred miles...)

    Subscribed to 7 day trial of Appletv+ streaming service and watched it on tv yesterday. Good movie especially if you were in Navy. A bit too technical with tactics and manuevering strategy for my wife who lost interest and went to sewing room after about 15 minutes. Especially loved the role the USS Kidd played in movie.

    Watched last night as well with same result on the wife end ;). Loved that it was from a single perspective, not jumping all over the place e.g. Midway. Reference to the Kidd was cool. Is it true the Kidd's bridge was used?

    I think we're finally technically ready for the mother of all Naval war movies, Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailor!

    I remember that when I was in college a bunch of us took our dates to "Battle of Britain". The ladies had the same reaction as the spouses of the last two posters. Some movies are just for WW2 nuts!

    Watched it. Pleased overall. The radio taunting gave us a humanity to the u-boats. The sailors are fighting people, not sharks.

    For you non-USN types, the skipper got a promotion between the time he got his slippers and the opening action. He's a Lt. Cmdr. at the hotel but wearing silver oak leaves (indicating he's now a Commander) when he confronts the miscreants at the beginning of the action.

    Yeah. He was escort commander, so he had to have the rank to go with it. It would have been a good time to discuss his nearly retiring before war broke out. This would make the hotel scene make more sense.

    Well, poop! Whole bloody show is ruined! I just noticed Hanks ordered the Brits to form "starboard echelon" on him. And the wide shot shows they're formed up on the port. (Time tick 1:22:11 on.) Of course I could blame this on British traffic patterns.

    Another entry for the non-sailors.

    4:54 "After all those years of being fitted and retained,"

    He's saying that he has been active duty during the Depression and his evaluations say he's "fit" for promotion and command, BUT he has been "retained" in his current rank. The peacetime USN, especially during the Great Depression, was almost a shoestring operation and command slots were scarce, promotions hard to come by. It's a compliment that he wasn't just retired, the Navy sees value in him.
