This low budget movie stars George Montgomery, a veteran of many westerns on TV and cinema. Something of a vanity project as Montgomery not only stars, but wrote, produced and directed. The remainder of the cast are largely Filipino and not well known outside their home country I suspect. They try hard, but the acting is hit and miss by and large, even by the few other Americans present. The story; a Marine captain (Montgomery) loses a hand just before the Japanese invasion of the Philippines and is invalided out, but is recalled to help free a US general held for ransom by local guerrillas. When he meets the guerrilla leader he learns the Japanese have the general, so he enlists the locals to help him spring the captive. They rescue the American from a train, but eventually learn he is a NCO impersonating a general to get better treatment. The fake general goes mental and is killed by pursuing Japanese and the rescuers flee to the coast and flag down a US ship to escape, There is a forced love story between Montgomery and a girl half his age who seems to have got the gig based on her looks rather than acting ability. The story is meandering and somewhat unfocused, which is not helped by the pacing and dialog, and the fake missing hand does not look convincing most of the time. More meh than bad.
This reminds me of the story where a movie producer dies and goes to heaven (hey, it's fiction). St. Peter tells him that God wants him to make the best movie ever made. He can have his pick of actors, directors, tech people, everything. There's just one catch....God has this girlfriend......
...like a lot of these movies, they are fun to watch--for the ''idiocy''/etc ..in one scene,Montgomery jumps on a train to kill the guard or something......I'm thinking, why didn't the guy with 2 good hands do it?? it looks very ''funny'' with him struggling to get it done.... ...looks like they are dressed in 1961 clothes .. ..yes, this is a ''goofy'' movie
