There is talk that the Russians are testing a new stealth torpedo, Poseidon 2M39. It can Carry a nuclear head or Cobolt-60 to make it a 'Dirty' bomb. The range could be as long as 10,000 kilometers. It can also stop and stay in place for years before exploding. The Russian defence ministry has released footage of testing the torpedo.
I read about this a while back. Reports here in America tended to view it as Russian bluffing. Do you have a good source where I can read up on this some more? ETA: did some reading at The National Interest website on this. Looks legit, but not terribly useful.
Such weapons have been researched since 1944 - at the time, they were to small to have the desired effect. Early work pointed to 2 megatons as being the minimum needed to generate a decent tsunami. Detonating the Bomb on the sea floor? Where is most of the blast going? Up. Where is most of the radioactivity going? Up. So, the Tsunami is started without much radioactivity...Then this radioactive water is spread over hundreds, if not thousands of miles of shoreline, greatly dissipating it's radioactivity. Just look at Fukushima to see how dissipated radioactive waters become. Besides the Russians already have more than enough nuclear weapons to get the job done several times over. What is one more... The major weakness is still the submarine delivering the weapon.
Yes indeed, Soviet propaganda is often three steps further than the truth. The range of 10,000 kilometers sounds weird as well. Not saying this is the truth but I have read about nuclear mines set in the Major harbours on both sides, and the nuclear subs under the Antarctic ice waiting to reappear after the war and make more damage By launching nukes.
Nuclear mines....Nuclear ballistics all much the same. The subs are first strike weapons, ready to shower their targets with low trajectory missiles that give little warning time.
According to TNI, it is apparently powered by a small nuclear reactor. Such a range seems easily obtainable if that report is true. I still doubt the utility of spending however many hundreds of millions of rubles on a weapon that can only mount coastal attacks -- which same attacks could be mounted by ICBMs at much lower cost due to heritage investment. But hey, if the Russians want to spend their money on it, I say let 'em do so.
I hope the Russians never have to use it. I know if we go to war, which I sincerely hope we both avoid, that they will set one off to destroy our coastal cities.
All major US cities, not just coastal ones, have been dialed into Soviet/Russian ballistic missiles for decades...I doubt a torpedo is going to add anything to the equation. It really is not an OMG! OMG! OMG! moment.
The neocons warmongers are in power and if you saw Sen. Ron Paul's U-toob vid, he's warning that the US is egging Ukraine to fight. Naughty Sunkist Person would avoid war but not that drooling old sock-puppet in the Whine Haus. He takes his orders like a good old fool.
The EU is on The Ukraine side, too. Give Ukraine the weapons and Putin has some explaining to do. I leave it there as this turns political.
Just to clue you in...Ron Paul was never a Senator, but he was a member of the House. Perhaps, you mean his krazy kiddie Randal Howard Paul? Perhaps... We now pause for this musical subliminal messaging... Hope you wore your tinfoil hat.
Thanks. Suggest you also look up the Wolfowitz Doctrine. Adherents are known as the neocons. It doesn't matter if they Rep. or Dem. Same-same. It's been U.S. policy for decades now. If you think we have a two party system, then you've been watching the MSM too long. There's been only one party and none of us belong. Like a coin, it has two sides and fosters the illusion of choice. Suggest you read Nomi Prins' All The Presidents' Bankers. Returning to the MSM, it isn't there to report the news but for perception management. Want tinfoil? Wake up call is coming pretty soon. Change will happen fast too. What has happened to foreign nations will be happening here and history, while not ours, will repeat itself.
Well, this won't end well. Ciao, ta-ta, toodles, arrivederci, later taters, and hasta la vista, baby.
I have, and for the most part it has been an abject failure. Actually, neocon came about in the 60's, well before Wolfowitz put pen to paper. Over time it's meaning has been morphed to suit the entities using it, usually as an epithet, mostly by fringe conspiracy theorists. Actually, several of the points of the "Wolfowitz Doctrine," have been US policy for over a century and a half...Going back to the early 1800s. We have a multi-party system, as has been evidenced over the centuries. If none of us belong to the "one party", it is not a party...If you have a party and no one shows up, is it still a party? A coin has three sides...You forgot the edge. The choice is real, and not an illusion. However, since one choice is only in office for 4-8 years, and whatever progress has been made in that time, said progress is usually undone, when the opposition gets back in power, and we start all over from square one. I've read it, did not impress me much. Given the multitude of perceptive people participating in MSM, they tend to fail at managing perception. Like the three sides of a coin, left side, right side, and the truth that lies in the middle(edge). Yes, some people have been saying that for decades now...Still has not happened yet. Maybe one of these days they will be right, but the odds are against it.
Oh, I don't disagree...We will fall as all Empires have fallen. It is inevitable. Most Empires last 250-450 years, with very few lasting to 500 years. The question is how close are we to the precipice? I think we still have another 100 years yet to go, but that applecart could be upset by future events.
Oh. I was thinking death of the dollar as a medium of exchange and of the economy and not the collapse of estados unidos,
