I'm working on a story about a British tank crew and I'm having trouble assigning ranks to the crew. Can anyone tell me the most common rank for each member; commander, driver, gunner and loader?

Depends on the unit, role and whose tank it is.......

It doesn't sound to me as if you have read much into the subject. Start with

Category:Regiments of the British Army in World War II - Wikipedia

    and
    Armour

This link to a page on the sister site dedicated to Britoish and Commonwealth units has a break down of the types of armoured units in NW Europe in 1944-45 and the ranks in each tank in each type of unit. A minoroty of troopers might be lance corporals. .

Note that if your tank is full of Guardsmen then the lance corporals are corporals and the corporals are lance sergeants and they all speak Brigade of Guards..
