Can anyone tell me the location of this target attacked on 16/7/44. A nearby town would be good. Latitude & Longitude would be even better. Regards Robin www.156Squadron.com
I suppose it's a V1 launching site in Picardy, but "bois" means wood. So it could be anywhere in Norhthern France . Nucourt was also targetted and is north west of Paris This is a link to a V1 launching site specialist: http://l.bailleul.free.fr/index.htm
Steve Darlow's book 'Sledgehammers For Tintacks' briefly describes the attack on this site which is confirmed as being for V1 launching, but unfortunately gives no information at all regarding the location.
I've found a Bomber Command raid on 15/7/44, target struck was NB/V-Site, OBOE(N) by 41 aircraft and maybe mission 662 Other targets hits in same date, mission and type were Nucourt & Chalons sur Marne
460 RAAF Sqn attacked the following flying bomb installations in July 1944 Foret du Core, Ardouval, Coquereaux, Bois de Jardine (On 26/7/44) & Foret de Nieppe
Chalon sur Marne seems like a nice lead. Considering taht the Foret the Nieppe is closer to the coast we could draw a line from the Calais area to Chalons. I previously checked the Nucourt area but did not find the place. I will follow this line and check the Chalon area today. I confirm that Bois des Jardins was also attacked on July 26th and was totaly destroyed.
Thanks for your efforts guys, keep up the search! Yes this was a V1 Site and NuCourt was targeted on the same day by this Squadron, so they were probably close together? Am trying to map all target sites for 156, and these will be published on the site shortly. If I can find them Robin www.156Squadron.com
Well I found some of the names . Ardouval and Coquereaux are in Seine Maritime towards the Dieppe area. Just check the green spots on your map (near the coast) and you will find familiar names. Nucourt isn't too far (North of Paris) . However Foret des Jardins is a real Challenge. It is not a municipality , but a small wood that is part of a village. I have asked Bailleul's books for Christmas, I'm sure the place is listed there, but that would be a long wait...
Laurent Bailleul is a V1 specialist and author in France. He wrote a book about V1 sites in Flanders and another one about sites in Picardy. This a link to his site. http://l.bailleul.free.fr/index.htm
