hi everyone. i don,t know if this is the right place to post but just googled and dropped on here so perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
i own a farm in the north yorkshire area of england in a village called Tholthorpe. There used to be a ww2 airfield close to my farm.
We have been digging in preparation for new barn facilities and approx. 2 metres down have found old rotting wooden planks which appear to have once been a crate of some kind there is some heavy metal artifact which is clearly an engine. this looks to be covered in rotting cloths which a colleague has informed me may have been oil soaked originally to preserve the engine.
we feel the engine is complete and rolls royce is visible on the castings.
we have stopped digging in the location until we have more information.
    can anyone help.

The most famous RR engine is the Merlin. Used in British and US aircraft. Contact the national museum and see if they can assist you in removing the engine. I do not know if this falls under your antiquities laws. Good luck with your efforts. Please do not use a JCB to dig it out!

From books I have read it is the Merlin. Also the Fw 190 engine was good, It good stand enemy firing well, and protected the pilot as well. And worked well and caued less work for the mechanics. The "Long nose" was better, too. Anyway, it all is about what I have read.
