Defence Minister will not apologise to France for 'backstab' over dumped $90b submarine deal - ABC News

They didn't trust France with keeping the news quite.
Australia had lost trust with France many decades ago...Not least because they tested their nuclear bombs in our back yard when we expressly asked them not to (many times)...and the Rainbow Warrior terrorism debacle. Disappointing them really isn't any skin off our noses.

I have read that the US and Australia will co-design a "new" class of sub for Australia...if thats true, its exciting to have an indigenous nuclear sub.

In the news the Chinese representative said Australia is becoming China's enemy. Rough words, especially as the subs have no nukes. And considering what China itself is doing.

China talks sh#t all day long…whether it for domestic or international audiences…the only thing you can be sure of is the opposite to what they say…just like a bully in a school yard who’s bigger than everyone else and just does what he wants…the moment someone stands up them they start crying and saying how hard done by they are…FULL OF SH#T…even their own people are starting to wake up to the fact…their biggest threat is internal, and they know it.
I still very much respect the Chinese people…they are brilliant people…I won’t judge Americans by Trump, we shouldn’t judge the Chinese people for their government either.

I myself consider China is talking bs as they are taking islands and making them military bases even the islands don´t belong to them. And still they have "balls" to blame ot her countries for lesser actions. Now GET THE F OUT OF THOSE ISLANDS!

    What rubbish in the end!

But the move angered France, which said it had been "stabbed in the back", while China accused the three powers of having a "Cold War mentality".

    ------------------
A high-profile French-backed nuclear power plant in Finland has been delayed yet again, meaning it is likely to start production more than a decade late.

a similar European pressurised reactor to the one envisaged for the UK’s controversial Hinkley Point plant, the Finnish project — led by French reactor manufacturer Areva — has been regularly beset by delays and huge cost overruns.

Olkiluoto-3 was originally meant to start production in spring 2009 and cost €3.2bn but the last price estimate was almost three times as high.

    ---------------

Start in 2009 and it is now 2021? Good work, lads.

    The power of China
To most governments, a relationship with the Taliban is distinctly embarrassing right now. The militant group has links with Saudi Arabia and some Gulf states, though not close ones.

The country which has the closest relationship with the Taliban is China, which doesn't show the slightest sign of embarrassment at all. With so many ordinary Afghans trying to flee their country, its economy seems certain to crash, as it did when the Taliban were last in power, from 1996 to 2001. Therefore, Chinese economic support will be needed to keep Afghanistan afloat, and that will give Beijing a sizeable degree of control over Taliban policy.

We can also be pretty certain that the Taliban won't challenge China on awkward issues like the treatment of its Muslim and Uighur population.

Get use to it CAC. Looks like you're going to be seeing and hearing a lot from us in the US.

Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III revealed Sept. 16 further air defense cooperation measures with Australia and that more U.S. troops will be heading there, going beyond President Joe Biden’s announcement a day earlier that the United States and United Kingdom will share nuclear submarine technology with the Pacific ally in the face of a growing threat from China.

Speaking alongside Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and their Australian counterparts at the State Department, Austin said the U.S. and Australia will increase exercises, training, and sharing of defense technology.

I don´t like what China is doing. Conquering islands and creating new military bases. Like asking blood from your nose.

A country with nuke availability? Sorry but one nuke is enough. The conservative part of army is inadequate if they face the bomb.Do you agree? If not I would like to hear why not. You would have to answer with nukes, right?
I have nothing against the video but nukes come in the play once the other side feels they are losing the battle. Then what? My story. .

MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) comes into play. While the US has wasted trillions on a stupid number of nukes, China has just enough to say - Do it to us and we do it to you and your allies. Then the question becomes how badly do you want to win, or "lose" if the balloon does go up.

That being said, China has mostly contented itself with "defensive" military operations. They have not really pursued a course of rampant global military adventurism that the US has. Thus, they have not built up there military like the US, and instead have been putting all that excess cash into building a rather robust economy - which is very likely a much better deal.

Now, they are are moving onto the global military stage, and a expanding & modernizing their military at a rather decent clip...increasing their military budget at roughly 7% annually. Meanwhile, the US continues to drop a considerable sum into maintaining it's excessively large military - IMHO, a military budget it cannot sustain too much longer.
This bit is apolitical - Just look at how the Repubs & Dems are fighting over Biden's infrastructure plan...IMHO, seems like a no-brainer to support, but who said politicians have brains.
