    Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had any books on the Philippine guerillas campaign, or could recommend some? Thanks.

    They Fought Alone was the name of that book. It centered on Wendell Fertig, he was a reserve engineer officer living in the Philippines and was activated prior to Pearl Harbor. He was slated to be evacuated to Australia in 1942 when Mac bugged out but was stranded in Mindanao when the aircraft he was assigned to broke down. He refused to surrender and went into the hills with other like thinking Americans and carried the war on from there. Fascinating story actually.

    Wendall Fertig is considered as one of the top 10 guerilla leaders in history. Tried to figure out who the other nine were but couldn't find the rest of the list. Even if Fertig was number 10, the first nine had to be magnificent warriors.

    Thanks Biak. There was some information on Cebu's liberation in there.

    If anyone knows anything about the guerilla operations the US support for them on Cebu, please share it.

    Chapter 10: Guerrilla Activities in the Philippines

    " East of Negros is the long, narrow island of Cebu, the most densely populated of all the Philippine Islands. The story of the guerrilla movement on Cebu is primarily that of two men -Harry Fenton and Lt. Col. James H. Cushing both American-born. With the Japanese capture of Cebu City in the central part of the island, a large number of USAFFE forces escaped to the hills, taking along a sizeable quantity of arms and supplies. Numerous guerrilla units were soon formed in the enemy-unoccupied regions to the north and south and these gradually combined into larger groups. By the middle of 1942, the guerrilla organization on Cebu was split into two bodies; one under Fenton, in the north, and the other under Colonel Cushing, in the south. "

    Never fear, "Part_1" is just the way it comes up. These are US Army reports on the guerilla movement and intelligence gathering during the Japanese occupation.
