The WWII Observation Post Sandy Creek at the Casuarina Coastal Reserve was built between 1939-1941 during the build-up of defence installations in Darwin. It was one of a set of structures constructed as part of an overall coastal defence strategy in anticipation by allied strategists of a sea and land based invasion. This particular post was constructed on the beach to allow a clear view of the sea along the length of the beach in both directions.

Am I right in saying that's the one that's described as a Singapore pattern double Vickers MG box?

This is one of six beach pillboxes built along the Casuarina Coastal area. The closest neighbours were are Dripstone Caves and East Point.

The pillbox is noted as being in the Singapore Style, two Vickers Machine Gun position with a central observation post. This is very similar to pillboxes found in most Far Eastern Theaters, such as Hong Kong.

I cant find the one at East Point. I think the high tide has taken that one away. I think I was able to find the footings. Im going to head out tomorrow to climb the tower thats there. Ill take a quick look to see what I can find. Do you know the locations of the other 3 (I have Sandy Creek and Lee Point already).
