Instead of using resources, wouldn't it have been better for the Germans to leave Warsaw to the Polish Home Army and let them be a thorn on the side of the Red Army? Stalin could not tolerate an independent force behind his lines.
If I recall correctly the Red Army sent radio messages to the Warsaw people to start the uprising so that the Germans would be driven out of Warsaw more quickly. However, the Red Army stopped in front of Warsaw and let the Germans take care of the resistance. I know, this is a matter that has been been talked about whether the Red Army was able to help the Warsaw resistance, but Knowing Stalin and his point of view about Polish and Warsaw I think he rather let the Germans do the dirty work. Like they did. Warsaw airlift - Wikipedia Even if the air-supply missions had delivered their full consignment of supplies, and these had reached their intended recipients, there is little likelihood that it would have altered the outcome of the Warsaw Uprising.[5] However, the Red Army did not move against Warsaw, even when the resistance was crushed and instead they cleared their flanks in the Balkans and the Baltic,[5] waiting for the total destruction of the non-Communist Poles.[25]
I have even better idea: Germans should have equipped the Polish Home Army and use them to stop the Russian invasion at Vistula. Then, they could have together pushed the Russians beyond Urals, win the war and rule together in Europe from Spain to Vladivostok. I know there are some minor problems with this plan. According to the initial plan, Poles should have been exterminated along with all other subhumans. However, after the victory they could have exterminated Russians with the help from Poles and then Himmler could have just exterminate the remaining Poles. Difficult but realistic plan.
The Red Army had Polish troops among them. Sending these first would changed the Warsaw resistance's view on the Red Army and side-by-side would have fought against the Germans.
Interesting point Tamino. Here's a bunch o' panzer fausts. Have at it lads. We won't be back ever. But what if like Kai-Petri suggested that the two divisions Red Army of Polish troops entered instead of the Soviets? Would the Polish Home Army have fired on the Soviet controlled Poles? BTW, read one account of a Polish soldier in Soviet service. He wanted to join the Polish Army under the Soviets but the Politruk felt it was disloyal to the glorious (cough, cough) Red Army and if he left it would be desertion. Politruk did not want to lose a valuable bi-lingual scout/soldier. He left and reached the Polish Army and enlisted under them.
