I didn't find out until Monday that we had the first tornado of the Friday storm 2 1/2 miles SW of us. It was an EF 0 and blew up and died within a quarter mile. It did minor damage to roofs and fences around some friends of ours down close to the river.

For those of you who understand tornado paths, SW of us means we were NE of where it started. Had it continued and gained strength, it would tracked painfully close to my house, which would made tornado # 2 to have hit us this year.

The storm back in May damaged a lot of houses, downed a large number of trees, and laid over most of the privacy fences in a wide path across the subdivision where I live. Thankfully, no major damage like what occurred in KY but I got a roof out of the deal and had repairs on my gate, which was torn off the posts.

I'll take that any day over a destroyed house or worse.

Australia has actually had a few bad tornados - Big, strong Tornados are rare in Australia...We have always had "Willy Willys"...Fun as children to run through them...

But as i said, we have had a couple of big ones this year...One bloke hunkering down in his rural house saw cows flying past and then his dog!

"A Pomeranian aptly named Pom Pom has miraculously survived being swallowed by a tornado and flung 300m from her home in NSW. The pint-sized 1.5kg canine was finally given the green light to return home after spending two weeks recovering from the wild storm at a vet."

We call them dirt devils here.

If they are over water, then they are water spouts.
