Another small change... Roy Brown got a "bar" to his DFC for Richthofens kill. But considering that the British were promising a VC, it still falls short. Modern people should probably agitate for a postumous VC for Popkin. But the whole thing might have not ever been part of an official comunique or on paper anywhere. I don't know.
Yet another discovery.... Apparently, the idea that a Victoria Cross was offered for shooting Richthofen down was a rumour circulated by Imperial Germany in an effort to publicize and enhance the reputation of their national hero. Marvelous what you can find on the internet if you look hard enough. But I still don't believe it beats a well researched book on any subject you can name. Call me old world if you want to.
