I just saw this movie again tonight, I had forgotten just how good this movie is. I think it is a real masterpiece of film making. I must admit tho, you really gotta stay on your toes to follow the story.....Anybody agree, or am I just an old romantic ?

Ive never heard of this film. Who is in it? Whats it about? How old is the movie? From the title it sounds like it could be about the Battle of the Bulge?

Hi Carl....Its about a post war town up in Oragon. All the people are in the fishing trade. One of the fishermen is found tangled in his net, and is dead. The main suspect is a Japanese American who was with the 442 Regiment....he is married to a girl who was in love with a reporter (a white boy, Marine, who losses an arm in the Pacific)I wont tell you the rest of the story but I will say it is complex....but man the way it was filmed is just plain SURPERB!....Im sorry i dont know the names of any of the actors, But the reporter is the kid from "call of the wild"....the chief prosacuter and the defence atturney are both very good bitt actors I have seen in "sent of a woman"......Their are a few flashback sences both from Europe and the Pacific. But thats not what this movie so outstanding. I have seen the list of movies you like, and Im sure you would really like this one....by the way, I saw this on cable, and it is about two years old I would think. I dont even know who the director is. If you want to check it out, and cant find it at the vidio store, let me know, I will try to find out some more info....If you do see it let us know what you think.

Smoke I'm on your side. It wasn't the best film ever made, but at least it had some minor WW2 content in a romance film. I at least could tolerate taking my woman to see this one ;)

Ethan Hawke did such a splendid job on this it took me a long while before I noticed he was missing an arm. I think you're supposed to be unaware of it, as the character is so self conscious he disguises his handicap through his posture, the way he picks things up, etc.

Main theme of the movie is anti-Japanese racism just after WWII. Very strong. It's also a sort of love story. Great movie.
