on a company morning report that i have of my father -in-law it says this, 'Asgd & jd per par 2 SO 27 Hq 383 MP Bn dtd 13 Feb 45 eff 9 Feb 45 Tel-No-La Haye 65 Rfng 1' --can anybody help translate this to me? I am wondering if this gives clues about where he 'came' from.
deJargonaise not guaranteed. "Assigned and Judged (?) per par 2 Special Orders 27th Headquarters 383rd Military Police Battalion."
He was assigned and joined by orders found in paragraph 2 of special orders 27 from the Headquarters of the 383d MP Battalion that were dated 13 February but were authorizing something that had already happened on 9 February 1945. Telephone Number La Haye 65 Rfng 1 - not sure what "Rfng" means since that is not a standard Army abbreviation. That is probably the telephone number for the HQ, 383d MP Battalion. Those SO usually reference the assignment of a soldier to the unit, so he was probably reporting for duty with the 383d MP Battalion. What company is the morning report from?
So where would i find those SO's? Could they tell where he came from? 'He was assigned and joined by orders found in paragraph 2 of special orders 27 from the Headquarters of the 383d MP Battalion' ted
You would have to see if the 383d MP has records in RG 407, Entry 427, at NARA II. The SO might say where he came from...or it might not.
In case you might not already know, the 383rd served in the ETO. Can't tell you when they got there. I would email USAHEC in Carlisle, PA and ask them if they have an itinerary for this unit. I know they do for combat units. You could also ask NARA for the 383rd's historical report for Feb 45 to see what they were up to. For service units these are usually a page or two, almost always a freebie.
