You couldn't find him in the 195th FA? That's odd. At no time between September 1944 and mid-July 1945?He should at least be noted as joined.

No, I'm afraid I haven't done research at Archives II since early 2015.

No, I misspoke/mistyped. I did find him in Company Morning Reports on June 13th, 1945 in the HQ Battery 195th FA Group. His MOS was changed again from 405 to 274.
I also have after-action reports from April 44 to Aug of 44. I guess I should ask for After Action and Morning reports thru Jan 1946. Does that sound reasonable?

Okay, so he was admin, typing reports and so forth, which makes sense. You should be able to work back to find when he entered the unit.

There will be no AAR for after 8 May 1945, because technically there were no actions to report. :) There may be a unit history. but O have not found one. Morning reports should continue until it was inactivated, so you may find when he left the unit.

Good news! I went back and checked the After Action report and found his name on the 195 field artillery group list, it looks to me like a full list of 75+ names, with his name included. The AA reports went from Dec 44 to March 45. I must have missed it the first time around....

Would there be any point to looking at morning reports/after action reports for either 20th BN 5th replacement & 53rd replacement? Or was that just a holding place for you when you arrived overseas and in his case placed into the 195 FA Group?

So is there any way to explain the lapel pins on his uniform? Would the 195th not have had a lapel? Is it most likely these were to show support of the 442nd rather than any involvement with the unit? I see no link outside of having been at Camp Shelby.
    Thanks
