Hello, so I was initially looking for information on a serviceman by the name of Virgil Odell Cole. I knew he served in the 770th Bomb Squadron, 462nd Bomb Group but wasn’t sure what his specific job was or whether he served onboard a bomber.

I was able to find a book online that detailed some information on the 462nd. And in it, I found Virgil’s name listed underneath the “13th Photo Lab”. After looking into the 13th photo lab, I was unable to find any information on them or what their primary job was. I did find a 13th Photographic Laboratory Squadron but they operated in the European theater, not in the Asian-Pacific theater where Virgil and the 462nd operated.

So I’m requesting any additional information on the 13th Photo lab that is shown in the photos. I’m essentially trying to nail down what Virgil did. In one of his letters I have, he mentions getting a “medal of honor” from the government of China for his role in the Raid of Yawata on June 15-16th 1944. What was their primary job? Any help is appreciated.
