Doesn't help in a time where people are starting to go against science...The Pandemic was a shambles in terms of disseminating scientific knowledge. (Or a President that wants people to inject disinfectant).

Scientists call this mysterious outflow the “polar wind,” and for almost 60 years, spacecraft have been flying through it as scientists have theorized about its cause. The leading theory was that a planet-wide electric field was drawing those particles up into space. But this so-called ambipolar electric field, if it exists, is so weak that all attempts to measure it have failed – until now.
In 2022, scientists traveled to Svalbard, a small archipelago in Norway, to launch a rocket in an attempt to measure Earth’s ambipolar electric field for the first time. This was NASA’s Endurance rocketship mission, and this is its story...
...Using observations from a NASA suborbital rocket, an international team of scientists has, for the first time, successfully measured a planet-wide electric field thought to be as fundamental to Earth as its gravity and magnetic fields. Known as the ambipolar electric field, scientists first hypothesized over 60 years ago that it drove how our planet’s atmosphere can escape above Earth’s North and South Poles. Measurements from the rocket, NASA's Endurance mission, have confirmed the existence of the ambipolar field and quantified its strength, revealing its role in driving atmospheric escape and shaping our ionosphere — a layer of the upper atmosphere — more broadly.

Also read yesterday that Gravity may not need mass to exist...It just gets more and more complicated.
The thing is, we dont live in the quantum world...So much of this is for further learning but little will impact on us. Unless the learning can be harnessed somehow - think the nucleus of an atom and nuclear weapons today.

And true to form, it pissed down at my place and I saw naff all, despite three major alerts.
"UK sky-watchers on Monday night were treated to the rare phenomenon known as Steve.
While Steve can look like the aurora and often appears during a showing of the Northern Lights, it is fundamentally different.
Steve is a relatively new scientific discovery and last night was spotted in parts of Scotland and north-east England.
There was also some spectacular sightings of the Northern Lights as far south as Buckinghamshire and Norfolk.
Steve - or to give it its full name, Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement - is unpredictable and only lasts for a short time.
Little is known about its formation and why it can sometimes appear during an aurora display.
While auroras happen in an oval shape, Steve appears as a ribbon and lasts for 20 minutes to an hour before disappearing.
While Steve is only spotted in the presence of an aurora, it is not a normal aurora as scientists suggests it comprises a fast-moving stream of extremely hot particles called a sub-auroral ion drift, or SAID."

Got treated to an amazing show here last night. There were three alerts before Midnight, and two after, though I only got the first four before running out of spare batteries and hypothermia setting in.
Both taken from the castle, top one at 2143 and the other at 0005.

 

It was a long, cold night, but worth it.
Whereas tonight it's just cold and cloudy.

 

We’re into the “build-up” here in Darwin…Stinking hot all day all night with no rain. I’d love a cold night…
