Username: Owen Postmark: 26 March 2018 From: The Magic Roundabout, Swindon, UK Slipdiit and Owen recently met in the UK and discussed this site. The intersection features five mini roundabouts, eddying around a larger central roundabout. I never thought of roundabouts as particularly magic, but evidently Owen has proof otherwise. There is a t-shirt too. "The Magic Roundabout" Unisex T-Shirt by deltagammacj | Redbubble Based on the road signs.
We had a large time quaffing some brews in a bar in Greenwich. I got to meet him and his family face to face after talking on Skype in times past. I enjoyed the too short visit and look forward to making the journey again, maybe meeting some of you other Limeys next time, as well as Owen and his crew.
Very interesting, thanks for posting. The closest true roundabout without traffic lights is about 30 minutes away from us in Gettysburg. Seems to work well. But not nearly as nice as this one.
Is this it? Roundabout is fair play in Midstate ah , this one ? REJS: Photos: USA 2006: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 9 October
Yes, that second one you posted. Gettysburg, where the the battle was fought that turned the Confederate army south and was the turning point in the war, even though it went on for two more years. Lee never tried to go that far north again. The town is nice, the Battlefield outstanding. I feel fortunate to live this close. And, the museum and visitors center is very nice also. Lee’s army marched through my town, Chambersburg, on the way to Gettysburg in 1863.
St. Louis, MO, is into roundabouts, they're popping up whenever a major overhaul of an intersection that qualifies is undergoing modernization.
English police officer explained their roundabouts to me and he thinks the multiple roundabouts cause a lot of confusion. Ours in Southern Colorado are simple single ones (there's three I'm aware of). In San Franciscograd there have been two (for years).
Singles here, spreading out from St. Louis to the burbs. My least favorite one is the first one I hit inbound to the city on surface roads.
Oh that would go over well here. It's said the "Roundabout" reduces accidents and speeds up congested intersections. The way folks drive up here something like the video would keep the towing industry busy. A simple one lane circle confuses the hell out of a lot of people.
There are roundabouts in Edinburgh with traffic lights for peak times, to 'keep the traffic moving'. Edit: forgot to add the link-Edinburgh City Bypass - Wikipedia Sheriffhall isn't the only one; Newbridge at the airport also has lights.
