East meets West in today's jeapordy challenge. These are stills from movie footage, circa 1945. Want to know who is the U.S. Brigadier General meeting with the Red Army officers. Looks like he wears the armored forces patch. The officer on the right is 1st Lieutenant Alex Bobuck from HQ 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
Thanks. The brig on the scene does strongly resemble Holmes E. Dager, although he should have two stars on his helmet by that time.
It sort of looks like him, but younger. His promotion was 3 May 1945 and this looks post conflict. On that date they were in Austria, Rohrbach in Oberösterreich. The 101st was in Bayern, Wolfratshausen, 259 kilometers away. 11th Armored was attached to the XII Corps of Third Army. The 101st was attached to the XXI Corps of Seventh Army. I suspect it is someone else and after VE Day.
Okay, this may be why it could be Dager. Bobuck was not in the 101st and with the 506th after 6 October 1944, when he was badly wounded in the legs by mortar fragments on the Island. He was evacuated and when recovered he was placed on detached service (TDY) as a FLO - a Foreign Liaison Officer - to SHAEF/ETOUSA/12th Army Group, which was obviously his role here postwar. He was still assigned to the 506th, which is why he is still wearing the 101st shoulder patch.
Known photos of Holmes Dager with a Soviet officer. http://www.11tharmoreddivision.com/photos_02/index.htm
