Hey Carl. I know Dawson went on to host Family Feud. I don't think he did much after that though.

You know Robert Clary is a Holocaust survivor. I think he still goes around and speaks about it. He might have written a book or two on the subject as well.

I agree with you about Washington. After Kinch left, I don't think they should have gotten anyone to replace him.

All the other guys have since passed away. Crane back in the 70s, Hovis, Klemperer, Banner, Askin. You know that Banner (Shultz), Klemperer (Klink), Askin (Brukhalter), and Caine (Hochstetter) were actually all Jewish.

I am definately going to pick up the last season. I have the other 5 so why not get the last one to round out the collection. Too bad they didn't have a series finale. That would have been very interesting. Maybe Schultz and Klink would have turned out to really be Allied agents.

Hi Col. yep, Dawson also did the movie: The Running Man, and had the part of a gameshow host-modeled directly after his alter-ego from Family Feud. I don't think he's done much of anything since his short-lived return to F.F.

Yep, I knew about Robert Clary. He lost about 25 members of his family during the holocost--i've even seen him display his number tattoo-in a movie he had a cameo in that starred Kirk Douglas.

I also knew that about Kemperer, Banner and Caine--about being Jewish. Both Banner and Klemperer let Germany in the 1930's and Klemperer served in the US Army in WWII or Korea? ANyway, both had many appearances in soem good films early on and both were talented.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think Ivan Dixon could have been replaced-and especially by Kenneth Wash/

I too wish there would have been an ending to the series. OR in the least, I wish there had been a made for TV movie-a few years later-that would have followed them through the 3 years at the Stalag-and then on wars end-having Hogan and the others, tell Klink and Schultz; what REALLY happened.

Glad to hear that. I think I could easily become a fan of Nita T. if I saw her in other TV shows. I really liked her in that season 2 episode of Daniel Boone I saw her in. Also, I think she really is a blonde.

Hey Carl. Werner Klemperer, Howard Caine, and Leon Askin all fought for the US during the Second World War.

I heard that they were supposed to make a Hogan's Heroes movie not too long ago but I don't think anything ever became of it. Russell Crowe was supposed to play Colonel Hogan. I think a TV movie would have been a good idea to wrap up the series and bring it to a close--as long as all the parts were played the original actors.

That's quite a list there PzJgr. Thanks for posting that up.

As for what I've been watching these days, last night I saw a pretty good made for TV WWI flick. The Lost Battalion. This A&E/History Channel production tells the story of elements of the 77th Infantry Divison--dubbed the Lost Battalion--who were cut off and surrounded by German forces in October of 1918. Pretty good movie if you ask me. I'd give it a 7/10. It's definately worth a look.

Tonight I'm going to have a look at The Train with Burt Lancaster.

Today I watched Rear Window with Jimmy Stewart. Not a war movie but it was pretty good. I think it's a bit overhyped though. I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10.

Had I known it would have been that long on the post, I would have just Posted the link to the list. I was amazed at the number of shows she has been on. That and she was also considered a starlet during the 60's and associate with Tab Hunter.

Hi Col, Pzjgr. First, thanks for that list ;-)) she sure was very actuive and strangely enough, I remember seeing some fo those very episodes (by title) but would have to see them again in order to spot her in them.

Col, I was not aware that Caine and Askin both served-that's cool to know ;-))

I had not heard anything about an H's H movie with Crowe? I know a movie about Bob Crane was made-I forget the name of the guy who played him. I never saw the movie but, I think it centered around Crane's sexual appetite.

Yep, I wish they would have made a wrap-up movie-using the same actors. However, I don';t think that would hav ebeen easy because when the series wrapped up-both Dawson adn Clary both said they wanted nothing to do with the show ever. I can't see why because it made them both very wealthy.

I have The Lost Battalion on DvD. I liked it the first time I saw it-tho I only saw the last half. Rick Schroeder playes Major Whitelsey-the CO of the lost battalion. Sad thing about Maj Whittelsey. I think it was in 1922 that he was on a cruise ship and he committed suicide by jumping over the rail of the ship.

The Train is an excellent movie.

Hey there Carl. The Hogan's Heroes movie with Crowe was rumored to be out around 2005. I don't think they really got anywhere with it. That movie you are thinking of is Auto Focus. I've never seen it either and have no desire to do so. Celebrity stories don't interest me--especially if it's a story like Crane's.

I think it's common for actors to want to disassociate themselves with a hit show after the show is finished. They want to move on to bigger and better things and don't want to be remembered for the character they played in that particular show. The only person I can think of who actually became a big time movie star after appearing on a popular TV show was Clint Eastwood. After he got his start on Rawhide, he appeared in Sergio Leone's Man With No Name Trilogy and became a big hit going on to star in movies such as Dirty Harry series and several different Westerns.

You know I really didn't like Schroeder as Whittlesey. Although I did enjoy the performance of that one Captain who portrayed Lt. Col. Strayer in Band of Brothers. Whittlesey, the Captain, and the other captain depicted in the film all won the Medal of Honor for their actions in the Argonne Forest. That's a shame about Whittlesey committing suicide in '22. I saw a book about the Lost Battalion that I think I'll pick up. Theirs is quite a story.

I enjoyed The Train very, very much. I'd easily give it a 10/10. The director made a wise decision to use black and white. The film was beautifully shot and the action scenes were superb since they used all real trains. This one definately kept me at the edge of my seat until the end.

Last night I decided to pop in a DVD I had rented--The Last Drop. The plot centered around different groups of people going after Nazi gold in Holland. It was horrible. I shut it off after about 20-30 minutes.

Just finished watching 'Eye of the Needle' with Donald Sutherland. I also tried to find a movie called 'Bear Island'. I saw parts of it a very long time ago. I cannot find it anywhere. Has anyone seen this movie?

Hi Col, that's bad. I think Crowe could have pulled it off as the Col. And that's it, auto focus. Im not normally interested in movies like that either but was curious to see and made up Hogan's Heroes scenes-since they showed him dressed as such.

There were a few others who cut their teeth on TV and became big stars. One that comes to mind is Tom Hanks-who was in Bosom Buddies. I watched that show when it originally aired-and it was pretty good.

Don't quote me exactly as im probably wrong on the year Whittelsey committed suicide-but i do believe it was 1922--just not 100% sure ;-))

The Train is one that had to grow on me but is now one of my all-time favorites. I think using B&W was the only choice for this movie. I like the gritty-old look of B&W films and almsot wish that they would go back to it-when doing more period type films.

Thanks for the review of The Last Drop, I think i'll save my money.

The Desert Fox yesterday, strange role for James Mason. Well he did do a good job not to sure about the actor who played Hitler, a little camp performance.

I vaguely remember seeing this on TV years ago. It was based on an Alastair McLean novel and again, I think, starred Donald Sutherland. The plot revolved around an old U-Boat base on a remote North Atlantic island and I seem to remember a U-Boat complete with skeletal crew featuring......

I caught the end of a German film on the last days of Sophie Scholl, of the White Rose group. The resemblance of the main actress was phantastic.

    The White Rose

That's what I hate about cable TV, films always start on the middle or at the end, you have to wait for a lucky day or until 4am to see the beginning :)

Hey Carl. I guess the Hogan's Heroes movie would have been interesting if nothing else. I'd sure prefer it to the crap Hollywood is putting out these days.

The Train just wouldn't have been the same if it was in color. Some movies are meant to be in black and white and some aren't. That's just the way it is.

Speaking of black and white WWII flicks, I recently watched The Best Years of Our Lives and The Story of GI Joe. The Best Years of Our Lives was excellent. This was the first time I have seen it. It's about 3 WWII Vets returning home to a small town and trying to adjust back into the world. The Story of GI Joe wasn't bad either. It's the story of war time correspondent Ernie Pyle played by Burgess Meredith.

I have just rented The Big Red One: The Reconstruction. I've seen The Big Red One a while ago and I didn't particularly care for it but I thought I'd give it another shot considering this version has a lot of deleted scenes that weren't in the original release.

Last week I watched Joyeux Noel--the story of the Christmas truce on the Western Front in 1914. Overall, I thought it was pretty good despite the fictional love interest that Hollywood always has to throw in there. I'd say that this one is worth a look.

Hey Za. I caught this one a while back. The film mostly portrays her interrogation and trial. You knew what was going to happen at the end but I thought it was quite powerful due to the manner in which they showed it.

    I'd give it a 7/10.
