Pearl Harbor. Just..no. It's not my kind of movie. The script is just horrible and the acting was horrible ( with the exception of the guy who played FDR, he was good ). And the love triangle was really lame. I mean, if I wanted to watch a good ( key word, good ) wartime romance featuring a good love triangle then I'd watch Casablanca. I don't really see why they even made Pearl Harbor, I mean there was already a good enough romance movie ( if that's what they were trying to make :p ) for that event--it's called From Here to Eternity.

I mean I would say U-571 is a movie you can see once then forget it. It's only worth one view in my opinion

Bridge Too Far is pretty epic not quite as good as Longest Day but pretty close. It kills me how much some bash on SPR, sure the story was Ameri-centric but then again it was about Rangers and 101st so should it have Brits running around??????? And yes there are mistakes made in some tactics but overall pretty realistic and accuracy was attempted at every level. Kind of reminds me of kids who love a band. The band gets popular then the kids hate the band. Why because it is for some reason cool to hate what everyone likes. Lame.

My only quibble with "Ryan" was near the end when a Mustang blows up a Tiger tank. Had it been a Thunderbolt or a Typhoon I would have bought it. Otherwise a good film that at times is hard to watch.

SPR and a Bridge Too Far are in my view both excellent to watch and pretty accurate compared to many others.

My worst by far has to be dirty dozen 2/next mission. What were they thinking?

I have to say that anyone who smashes SPR because it is too "American" only says how narrowminded they are (and it is usually said by people who aren't American, which could add a jealousy factor to it--jealousy as in jealous that their country has not made such a fine movie about their contribution to a war like WWII). If you look at it logically, there really is no way you can say that SPR is a bad war film. There really isn't--it of course has flaws, but pretty much all of them are minor and are only because films can only do so much (and you have to remember, they are movies after all, not documentaries...). The point of SPR was to tell a general story of what the average American soldier went through, and it did EXACTLY that. Sorry it's premise wasn't to show the glory of the Soviet or Commonwealth soldier...but that's just not the story it chose to portray. Big deal... People who read into it as an "America F*** Yeah!" movie only show that they see anything that isn't anti-American as garbage. Pure narrowmindedness and emotionally charged ignorance. It's point was to show one front of the war, not to represent the whole thing.

That sad, the worst WWII movies of all time are (BY FAR):
    Windtalkers
    Pearl Harbor

As bad as Battle of the Bulge was, it looks like one of the best ever when you put it side by side with either of those two. Windtalkers was probably the only movie I actually didn't want to stay the whole time in at the theater--and that says something. I kept thinking, "Maybe in a few minutes it'll have one scene that made it worth watching once...some sort of small redeeming factor..." But yeah, that never came...lol. That movie is just painful in every single way--I can't think of one thing it did well/right. Pearl Harbor....at least it had good visuals? Other than that, it's too bad it even had something to do with WWII--it was basically just a chick flick...

Elsa? Yep, seen that and other EuroCine tripe. The Ilsa movies with Dyanne Thorne are a little better.

Then you have the sadistic Italian Nazi camp movies of the mid-1970s that disappeared as suddenly as they appeared: The Beast in Heat, SS Experiment Camp, etc.

I can tell you now people don't think what they do about Americans, because people are 'jealous' of Americans, far from it and that statement only confirms why people think of Americans as being self centered, imperialistic and the whole 'we have right to do what ever we like mentality'.

I am proud to be Australian in fact the best country in the world by no comparison, and yes the Australian film industry has not made a film that can compare to SPR but they have certainly made some good ones.

Now SPR is a good film with the few obvious flaws, such as the tiger, the mustang, the whole church tower explosion scene etc. etc. But all in all it is not a bad story, a little imperialist but not a bad story. For example if you look at how American soldiers die from any unit in the movie and it is all so dramatic, slow motions and what not, but you don't see the same with the Germans, it is just a simple bang and he's dead routine. Now I understand this is a film about an American squad in ww2 which is fine, but what I have just mentioned can be viewed as "Americans winning the war again".

The worst film of the WWII, what I have ever watched - «Utomlennye solntsem. Predstoianie. Part 2». (Burnt by the Sun, Imminence). The film was created for the 65 Anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War. The premiere show was held on April 22, 2010. It was directed by Nikita Mikhalkov. Nikita - a famous Russian actor and Producer. His elder brother is also a Producer, has long lived and made films in the U.S. Nikita's father (children,s author) is famous for the fact that he written words of the Hymn of Russia. In 1994, Nikita won «Oscar» for the first part of this film (in the category of best foreign film). But the second part was much worse than the first.
And this is despite the fact that the film's budget was - $ 40 million, in the crowd scenes film involved troops of the Ministry of Defense, used authentic equipment from the wars (including Germans), production of the film was supported by the Government, etc. The film production was accompanied by a large advertising company. Before the premiere of the film, they said that it would be a blockbuster like «Saving Private Ryan». In short, the noise was a lot.
Unfortunately (in my opinion), the film turned out very fake, sometimes rude and vulgar. During rolling the film has collected only $ 7 million. Moreover, in November 2010, had held a show already removed the third part. But it is postponed to 2011. In general, in Russia, the film flopped.
I wonder what effect it has caused to foreigners. If anyone watched this movie, share your experience. And sorry for our producer’s:D.

Hollywood has very deep pockets, so a movie with a $70 mil budget will always be prettier than the one with a $5 mil. Some beileve that a prettier movie is the better one, I am not one of those people.

Before calling others narrow minded and jealous, may I ask how many foreign films you have watched? French, German, Polish, Russian etc.?

    PS,
I happen to like SPR ;)

There are movies with a lower budget that's way better than the Hollywood Crap.

    Hollywood is overrated.

    PizzaDevil,

I agree, virtually all movies around the world have lower budgets than Hollywood. Read my post again, I specifically said prettier but not necessarily better.

Only slow motion views I remember are when Hanks' character is stunned on the beach and when main characters are dying in the end. Both are cinamatic methods. Stunned character is not just seeing in slow motion he is also not hearing right. That puts viewers more in the chaos of the moment. And are you seriously going to knock each movie that has invested characters death in slower motion or more detail. SPR was defiantly not super imperialistic Rambo 1 US Soldier wipes out 100's of the enemy crap. Considering almost every character dies in the movie.
