Looking for information on the 139th CB's on Okinawa, April 1945 to Sept 1945. Trying to locate where their main camp was? Camp was named Camp Hayward, would like to know why it was named Hayward?
    Thanks.

Not that I know anything personally but my father-in-law, Francis "Frank" Stange who was with the 139th NCB in Okinawa says that Camp Hayward was named for one of the sailors in the group, who had gone out on a motorcycle on an errand and was killed when he drove over a land mine.

He, too, is looking for any documentation about the 139th NCB.

Thanks for the info, really hard to tell how a lot of the camps got their names, most did not last very long. I have a lot of photos of CB units on Okinawa at the time, but none from 139th. Here is a link to my Okinawa website in case your interested. Remembering Okinawa - 1945 to 1972 United States Administration Period History

My father was in the NCB as a medic, 139th Okinawa circa 1945, Camp Haywood. Does anyone have any info about this camp?
He was also on a naval hospital ship but I cant find any info about this.

My dad passed a few yrs ago.

Any one with info would be wonderful, Thank you in advance.
