Remembered an old hit from 1985 Paul Hardcastle and 19:

"In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26...
    In Vietnam he was 19."

Is this true? And I suppose this means the combat troops in front line.

It would be the average age, (or perhaps the most typical age), of all US fatalities wouldn’t it Kai? Like you I’ve heard the age 19 often quoted, but I don’t remember seeing a statistical chart at any time?

If WWII averages 26, I bet WWI was younger? I understand when the first BEF was being sent to France/Belgium, (WWII), they subsequently issued an amendment stating only those aged 21 and over could go.

I don't doubt that. The average age of troops in Vietnam was younger than those serving in the Second World War. Just compare photographs from both wars.
