Hi, I have been researching September 1940 UK army troop and equipment strengths but find contradictory figures and a lot information on the internet that doesn't quote its sources. Could anybody help me find some reliable unbiased information about the true situation in the UK in autumn 1940? You can see the problems I am having if you look at Part 2 below:

To see Part 1, the Luftwaffe, go here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_JIBYcrqYoOTFVwN1ZHWUZFR3c

To See Part 2, The German Army, Go here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_JIBYcrqYoOTDVJYXJ2NzJCb1k

To see part 3, the German navy , go here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_JIBYcrqYoObzVtY1UtUExlaG8

Try David Newbold's excellent PhD thesis which you can get by enrolling on the British Library ETHOS - it free to join.

Then to select either type in David Newbold or British Planning to Resist Invasion in 1940 (or words to that effect).

Its 500 plus pages long so you will have plenty of bedtime reading

Thanks a lot! the Wikipedia page does have some useful information but not the detail I seek and also it merely repeats the same material that much of the other web pages use

There used to be a great sight called regiments.org which would have given you chapter and verse, but it's long since defunct and only partially available in online archives.

    This will help re. Equipment:

CAB 106/272 BEF Equipment Losses - World War 2 Talk

Drew is an absolute 1940 obsessive, who spends lots of spare time at the Archives.
He's ably supported by a pack of others for whom 1940/BEF is very much their 'thing'.
