Hi guys: I'm looking for information on the recipients of the 1944 "Special Wound Badge". Has anyone ever seen a real one?
No, I have not been that lucky. But have a look here, Steve: http://www.skalman.nu/third-reich/awards-wound-1944-holders.htm
Sorry to say that it is a pic of a nicely made repo--none of them had the "frost" on them. Also, I think there were 27 recipients? not sure though.
I have a book called World War 2 German medals written by Christopher Ailsby. In this book is a list of the recipients of the wound badge 20 july 1944. Black award: Keitel, Jodl, Warlimont, Puttkamer, Assmann, Von Below, Voss, Günsche. Silver award: Fegelein, Heusinger, Borgman. Gold award: Bodenschatz, Buhle, Scherff, Korten, Brant, Berger, Schmundt. Unknown(presumed black): Von John, Büchs, Hagan, Weizenegger, Hewell, Von Schimanski.
Nice, Volkbert! I actually have a picture of the gold wound badge in a book (would that be an original? Don't know). But there is a very good picture of General Rudolf Schmundt very severely wounded in a bed, he has bandages all around his face, but he is smiling, holding the Führer's hands, who is telling him some nice owrds. Beside, you can see cotton in Hitler's ear, because of the wound that caused the noise. Interesting photograph.
Carl is correct with the "authors" recommendations. I personally have all three grades of the Juli 44 wound badge cased, and would post if I can find a host. Fred Konig
Hi Fred! Otto has tried teaching me how to post--but I still have no clue how to. Meaning im still the worlds worst computer dummy there is.
Volkbert--I forgot to mention. Get Formans book on German Medals and Badges, there is a section on the July 20 44 Wound Badges--I think there is a pic of all three grades--I think.
Hi David and thanks--maybe my next "award" will be a loyalty to the Regiment Cross, or just a Regimental Badge--tho I dont know whats next or when it will be "awarded" looking forward to finding out
