I am trying to trace down a Bf109 that was shot down by an USAAF P-38 near San Paolo, Italy (near the German airbase at Udine) sometime in 1944. I have found that one Bf109 (8/JG53, "Black 5", Pilot Wolf Reihler) was reported missing after a dogfight with a P-38 Lightning near Udine. This P-38 most likely belonged to either the 1st Fighter Group or the 14th Fighter Group, and this Bf109 is likely the aircraft I am looking for.

I am trying to track down the kill records for both of these squadrons, which will likely allow me to verify this kill. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate the help.

    Thanks.

    hit up ArmyAirForces.com

go to groups and find both of them, join the forums and post in those two fighter groups with your question(s), you should receive and answer in time or better yet secure the volums/books on the fg's themselves
