The Department of Defense announced today, June 25th, the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 1st Sgt. Robert N. Barton, 35, of Roxie, Miss., died June 7 in Konar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Fort Campbell, KY — The Department of Defense today released the name of a 101st Airborne Division Soldier who died June 7th when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in the Dangam district, Kunar province, Afghanistan. 1st Sgt. Robert N. Barton II, 35, of Roxie, MS, was an infantryman who entered the Army in October 1993 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2005.
