Glen Ford joined the Navy Reserve in 1958. During WWII he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on 13 December 1942. He was given a medical discharge due to duodenal ulcers in December 1944 when he was preparing to enter OCS.
He (Ford) was stationed at San Diego with another actor, the number one male movie star of the time, Tyrone Power. Power served as a Marine Corps pilot. He enlisted in August 1942, attended boot camp at San Diego, went to OCS at Quantico, VA. Then he went to flight training at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. His age, almost 30 prevented him from being a fighter pilot so he was assigned to fly R5C's (C-46). He joined VMR-343 in the Marshalls, then flew in cargo and flew out wounded at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Released from active duty in January 1946 he went into the Marine Reserves and served until his death in 1958.
