    The Battle of Ong Thanh, I haven't been able to find a decent link for it but skimming through those I did find it seems that it was an ambush of the 2/28th by a VC force.

    Yes. It was one of the worst maulings taken by a US force(of that size) at the hands of the Viet Cong who usually fired a few shots and retreated when they met stiff resistance(unlike the NVA). The 28th took 134 casualties with 57 KIA.

    Is this the 28th Infantry Regiment or the 28th Infantry Division "Keystone" which is currently also serving in Iraq IIRC?

    It's the 28th infantry regiment..part of the 1st infantry division (as of 1965).
